Who says chivalry is dead?

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Push…shove…elbow…grrrr, another day on the TTC.

Backpacks, Birkin Bags, and  …. what’s this?  A flat screen TV?  OMG!

Bing bing, the doors slide shut.

Uh oh, here we go, squeezed and standing in the middle, tilting right….into……I look over……a smile?

Book in hand, he says, “I gotcha.”

Gee, thanks.  I ask, “Have you tried an e-reader?”

He grins, “Oh no, I’m immersed in technology during the day and build robots at night.  I love my books this way.”

I hand him my biz card, “I need help on my web-site. Interested?”

He reads it and grins again, “I met my wife on-line”

“Wow,” I exclaimed as he hands me his card.

Chivalry, robots, and an on-line love story…”thank you, thank you, Mr. Super Subway Super Hero” as we exit and go our separate ways at Bloor Station!

One Extraordinary Way to Meet Your Lover

Monday, January 24th, 2011

It’s fascinating how couples meet.  Often they say “we were introduced by friends”, “we met in university”, “we met in a bar”, “s/he was the the first to reply to my on-line profile”.  A more romantic reply was “we met on the streetcar” and a more quirky reply was “we were introduced by our GP”.

So here’s one more for the record:

While dining out with friends (2 married couples plus Mr. Odd Man Out), her eyes kept wandering back to Mr. OMO and before dessert was served, her mind was made up.  He was THE ONE!  Love works in mysterious ways.  Now as “brand new” newlyweds, they are dining happily ever after.  But I can’t help but wonder…was it something they ate?

No Ordinary Love

With V-Day fast approaching, love takes a front stage.  After talking to several singles this past year, I can’t help but wonder about the different “types” of love we all seek.  Some look for “The One”. Some look for “More Than One”.

Here’s the Top 3 “Must Haves”:

1. Intelligence

2. Sense of humour

3. Financial stability

Some say looking for love feels like playing the slot machines and hoping for all 7’s to roll up.  As a hopeful romantic, I say with a little bit of luck and a lot of good timing, you could hit the jackpot!

Holiday x’s + uh-o’s

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Mr. X was home for the holidays but despite a few attempts, we failed to connect.

While I recall the reasons Y he is an X, I wonder if we could be BFF…

Can this be possible with all X’s or only with a select few?
